'Tis the Season to be Jolly!!

As we deck the halls with decorations and fill our homes with happiness and cheer, we should keep in mind that nobody wants to have their holidays ruined by a fire in their home. Christmas tree fires and candle fires are the leading causes of holiday catastrophes. Remember to keep your tree away from heat sources such as fireplaces, space heaters, heat vents or candles. If you have a real tree, make sure to water it regularly and keep it hydrated. If you invest in an artificial tree make sure it is fire-resistant.

While you’re hanging up your lights keep an eye out for any frayed or damaged cords and wires. Damaged cords can lead to electrical shorts which can damage your other lights and holiday decorations potentially leading to a fire. If you find any damage just throw them out and get a new set. Do not leave your lights on while you are away from your home. Turn them off when you are asleep, it is important that someone be around if a problem should occur.

Don’t let your holiday season be spoiled, you can have a safe and beautiful holiday display as long as you avoid taking shortcuts and observe proper safety procedures.
